the components of mixed reality
"Mixed Reality" is a world within which both virtual and real things interact and both are important. As an example, when an image of a participating person's head or hand appears three-dimensionally on a monitor and interacts with computer-generated icons, this is mixed reality. Banana Panorama has more information that may prove useful.
"Augmented Reality" is a predominantly physical setting within which a few virtual things are overlaid to increase the feasible scope or scale of manipulation of the real world. Examples have a physician using Virtual Reality (VR) to work at a micro-scale that could not be done with unaided one's hands or a pilot with a translucent head-mounted-display that overlays maps on the pilot's range of sight to guide direction. Sub-page Virtual Tours Santa Rosa, California reports more developments regarding these technologies. See interesting subjects at Virtual Home Tours for more regarding virtual reality.
